Dr. Bader Ahmed Abuid has been an academician for the past 25 years. After receiving his B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Basrah in 1979, he pursued postgraduate studies and obtained his Higher Diploma and M.Sc. degree in Machine Design from Baghdad University in 1982. He then started his career in the academe in that same year, working as assistant lecturer in the Technical Military College in Baghdad as part of his national service. In 1983, after his stint in the military college, Dr. Bader became part of the Mechanical Department of the College of Engineering in the University of Basrah, where he served as assistant lecturer until 1987.
The following year, Dr. Bader received a Ph.D. scholarship from the Technical University Sofia, Bulgaria. He completed his doctoral studies and obtained his degree in the field of vibration from that university in 1992. He then went back to serve as lecturer in the University of Basrah, where he engaged in a variety of undergraduate and post-graduate disciplines until 1997. During that span, Dr. Bader taught courses in Applied Mechanics and related fields, and supervised several M.Sc. students. He also had a stint working as a consultant in vibration problems and fault diagnosis in Basrah south industry of Petrochemicals, Oil Refinery, and Power Stations of Al-Najibia and Al-Hartha.
Dr. Bader joined Nizwa College Technology as a lecturer in the Engineering Department in 2000. In 2004, he was appointed as Asst. Dean of Academic Affairs of the same college. Following a commitment to hard work and dedication to the affairs of the college, Dr. Bader had been recently appointed as Acting Dean of NCT.
Dr. Bader Ahmed Abuid has been a consistent speaker and presenter in local and national conferences and symposia in the areas of engineering and teaching & learning in higher education. Aside from numerous papers and studies he had presented in different forums, to date, he had also published more than 15 papers in prestigious journals such as ASME, JSME, and IFToMM. He is also a reviewer for the CAD Journal @Elsevier.
