History
The Nizwa College of Technology Library was founded in Nizwa, in 1982, during the time when the College is still part of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour. Ever since its conception, the College library is continuously improved through the conversion of its basic services and operations into more relevant and high-tech processes with the use of College system.
In 1995, the library was shifted from the old administration building to the building of teaching aids and resources (now IT Building). The college library started with only a few shelves, housing the few books available. With the support and guidance of dynamic administrations, as well as the development of technological processes in the college, the library started to expand.
Presently, the library uses a computerized system to provide a number of services such as the borrowing and returning of books, survey of the efficiency of the Library services and generating reports about borrowed and returned materials. Through its reference section, the College Library offers supplementary services like answering and providing information regarding dictionaries, Encyclopaedias and Atlases among others.
The Library System
The Library System is a College in-house system that uses computerized means for library users to avail of the Library Services. It allows users to log on using their college ID number, Students access the system through terminals found inside the library and administrative staff and lecturers access the services using assigned library number through the college Intranet. Thus, users can search for information in the library database at any college terminal whenever they need it. They can also use the system to read information on familiarizing themselves with the Library Rules and regulations.
Library Services
Book Loan
Staff and Students can borrow books within prescribed rules not exceeding 5 titles, otherwise he/she cannot loan anymore, until he/she returned the books previously loaned.
Library Catalogue
Search the NCT Library collection for books, journals, DVDs, etc. using the online system. You will also find other system features to assist with your needs.
Digital Library (eBrary)
Search an online collection of books in digital format (ebooks) as provided by the eBrary collection. About 35,000 titles can be accessed in a wide range of subjects - Engineering, IT, Business and Management, Sciences and Mathematics, and many others.

An A-Z listing of searchable databases. If you are a NCT staff member or student you can use the databases through the online College Library System.
Total Number of Books
The library currently contains a Grand Total of 2468 books, More over there are 2346 general reference titles and a number of magazine subscriptions. These materials are used by approximately 2449 Students and more than 200 employees.

Library Rules and Regulations
Library Code of Conduct (or how we expect you to use the Library Space)
This code exists to ensure that all library users have access to suitable learning environments. All readers in all parts of the Library are expected to adhere to the following regulations and failure to comply with this Code will result in the application of penalties as outlined below.
Code of Conduct In The Library Space
Readers must refrain from any noisy or unseemly behaviour, or any other conduct likely to interfere with the comfort or convenience of other readers within the Library or likely to damage or result in the unauthorized used of Library space, equipment, material and property.
Eating, drinking or smoking is not permitted in the Library.
Conversation is not permitted in designated quiet and individual study areas or in the adjacent book stacks and corridors.
The Library assumes no responsibility for personal property left in the Library space.
Readers must not misuse Library furniture, equipment or materials in any way.
Litter is to be placed in the bins provided.
All mobiles are to be switched to silent prior to entering the Library.
No materials or poster maybe distributed or displayed within the Library without permission of the Librarian.
All readers are required to leave the Library 10 minutes before closing time.
When the material has been lost, damaged, or not returned, the Library will require the reader to pay the cost of repair or replacement. Replacement is determined by the cost of the item.
Standard Rules in The Library Space
Please observe silence at all times when inside the Library.
After using all books, magazines and news papers, leave them neatly on the desk or put them on the trolley and let the staff return them to their proper locations.
Maintain cleanliness of your reading area. Take all rubbish with you when going out the Library.
Observe general etiquette in interacting or communicating with others in the Library.
Safety
Please make yourself aware of the fire exits in the Library. Fire Drills will be held throughout the year. Please report any hazard to the Library staff. If you have an accident when using the Library, please contact a member of the staff immediately.
Trolley Cart
Students and Staffs must put all the books and papers after they finished using them, so that the Library staff can arrange it and put to the proper locations.
Borrowing Procedure in The Library
All borrowers must have a valid library number.
The Library Number can be acquired from the Library Issue Desk.
The Borrower can search the books he/she wants to borrow and present it to the authorized Library staff.
The Library staff will input the information to the Library System.
A student can only borrow two (2) books at the same time and must return the borrowed items within (1) week.
Staff can only Borrow (5) books at the same time and must return the borrowed items within (2) weeks.
Each user can renew the book(s) for only one time.
Penalties for late books returned will be 100 Baiza/day for Students and 200 Baiza/day for Staff.
