Investing in you- How to Leverage Education for a Brighter Future

UTAS-Nizwa, June 2021. The Business Society of the Business Studies Department, UTAS-Nizwa, through the initiative of Ms. Hajar Al Nabhani, a core faculty member of the HR specialization and Student Services Coordinator of the BSD conducted a webinar entitled “Investing in you- How to Leverage Education for a Brighter Future” last June 13, 2021.
The webinar was conducted by Dr. Abdullah Al Bahrani, a distinguished professor from North Kentucky University, USA and concurrently the Director of the Center of Economic Education at the same university, His work has focused on the role of economics in policy development and the evaluation of policy. He is an advocate for evidence- based policy-making and the importance of effective communication and education of economics. In recognition of his excellence in teaching, Dr. Al Bahrani is recipient of the 2020 Kenneth G. Elzinga Distinguished Teaching Award.
Dr. Abdullah spoke about the necessity and urgency for the students to take advantage of their education not only to earn a degree but use it to advance their career and personal goals. He spoke empathically about the need for students to become active learners and treat studying as a platform for training, developing new skills and honing their own strengths and capabilities as the future of the country’s economy lay in their hands.
The webinar was attended by more than 100 students and faculty members of the BSD. The event was opened by Ms. Noor Al Hadrami, an Advanced Diploma in Human Resources student from the BSD. After delivering a short presentation, Dr. Abdullah encouraged everyone to engage in an open forum. This was highly welcome by the student participants as evidenced by the numerous questions and requests for advice from Dr. Abdullah.
The program lasted for more than an hour and was culminated by the vote of thanks which was delivered by Ms. Turkiya al Busaidi, the Head of the Marketing Section of the BSD.
