On 25th June 2018, the Research Committee conducted a Seminar on Big Data Analytics – a Trend of today and tomorrow in the Jibreen Hall of Nizwa College of Technology.
This was the TRC sponsored seminar a part of the TRC project being done by 4 IT students Afrah Al-Housni, Asma Al Siyabi, Suhaila Al Mahrooqi, Marwa Al Ismaili and the supervisor Ms. Sonia V. Soans.
Two eminent speakers Dr. Mounir Dhibi, HoD - Department of Computing, Middle East College, Muscat and Dr. Prakash Kumar Udupi, Programme Manager - Department of Computing, Middle East College, Muscat graced the occasion and shared their knowledge. They highlighted the need for Big Data and the need for information.
Students and staff had registered for this seminar earlier and participated enthusiastically. A lot of participants benefitted from the talks given by the speakers.
The program began with Mr. Khalfan Alabdali, IT student reading the quran to invoke Allah’s blessing before beginning the seminar. Afrah Al-Housni and Asma Al Siyabi were the MCs of the event. Mr. Hamed Al Aufi, Assistant Dean of Finance and Dr. Khalifa Al Shaqsi the HoD, Research Committee welcomed Dr. Mounir Dhibi, while Dr. Rolando Lontok HoD, IT and Ms. Alice Lontok HoS, IT, greeted Dr. Prakash Kumar with bouquets of flowers.
Dr. Rolando Lontok welcomed them and spoke a few words. He highlighted the importance of Big Data Research topics for more research projects.
Ms. Sonia Soans introduced the guests to the audience before they spoke. Dr. Mounir Al Dhibi was the Keynote speaker who spoke about Big Data Analytics and Dr. Prakash Kumar who was the guest speaker spoke about various tools which can be used to perform analytics.
A short break with High Tea was provided in between two talks. In the end of the program Mr. Hamed Al Aufi handed over the mementoes to the speakers.
The program ended with vote of thanks by IT student Mr. Khalfan Alabdali.
