The IT Society conducted a 2-day community-based programs for Omani children to identify budding technologists through many educational activities in the field of information technology last 30-31 January 2019. The event included activities with hands on computer and various training programs. On the first day, IT Society members focused on activities to test the students' knowledge in the internal and external components and input and output units of the computer. IT Alumni Mr. Hisham al-Kindi and Mr. Ahmed al-Shukaily held a competition thereafter to determine the extent of knowledge gained by the young trainees from the workshop on the first day. On the second day, IT Society member Houria Al Busaidi with the help of Zulikha Al Rawahi, conducted a training on the basics of programming using the SCRATCH software. The event was completed successfully, with 26 student participants from grades 7, 8 and 9 taking part in the event. The event also received many positive feedbacks from parents of the participants. In conclusion of the event, the Dean of the College, Dr. Ahmed Al-Shahri, handed over certificates and souvenirs to participating students. The IT Students Society supervisor, Ms. Suad Al Riyami, guided and monitored the overall proceedings of the event. The IT Society member students who actively volunteered to organize and implement the event include Abdullah Al-Awaimi, Anwar Al-Majizi, Shorouq Al-Mahrouqi, Mariam Al-Hinai, Jawahar Al-Raqmi, Fatima Al-Mabbali and Omair Al-Raqmi. The IT Department Head, Dr. Rolando appreciated the event and encouraged the IT Society member to conduct many more such events for the community.
