Workshop on “OCTAVE and XCOS”

Staff Development Unit of the Engineering Department in coordination with Human Resource Department organized a training program titled Workshop on “OCTAVE and XCOS” for the E&E Section on 20th June 2018. Dr.Ravichandran,, Member of Staff development unit/Engineering Department welcomed the gathering of around 25 staff who attended the program. Mr.Harisha and Mr.Murali are the resource persons of the workshop This workshop was intended to migrate from MATLAB to OCTAVE. OCTAVE is an open source implementation of MATLAB scripting language available for both LINUX and Windows. The workshop explains comparison between MATLAB and OCTAVE, procedure for downloading OCTAVE, procedure for installing OCTAVE packages, testing with sample programs. The OCTAVE software does not have Simulink platform. XCOS is a similar to Simulink environment which is embedded in an open source software named SCILAB. The procedure for compiler configuration steps is explained and the hands on experience is done for a sample simulation block diagram. The overall training was informative and useful with appreciation from the participants. The session ended with vote of thanks by Mr.J.Fakrudeen, Engineering Coordinator for Staff Development Unit
