Dr. Mohamed Rafiq, Head of Section Accounting & Finance of Business Studies Department in coordination with Ms. Maya Al Abri – Alumni of BSD at NCT working as an Associate Auditor, Abu Timam Grant Thornton organized a workshop for the students and staff on ‘Latest Changes in the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) on 25th September 2019 in Adam Hall. Mr. Shahnawaz khan – Chartered Accountant, Abu Timam Grant Thornton International Ltd, Muscat was invited to be the resource person. Dr. Mohamed Rafiq welcomed the chief guest and briefed about the resource person. The main objective of the workshop is to understand the basic knowledge of students regarding IFRS and apply disclosure requirements for companies in financial reports and notes. The resource person Mr. Shahnawaz khan explained in detail about recent changes in IFRS especially IFRS 15 – revenue from contracts with customers the five-step approach in a simple way. While he was explaining each content, he was interacting with the students and asked many questions relating to the contents. Students were active in the workshop and they were able to answer his questions. Around 60 Students from Bachelor, Advanced diploma, Diploma second year and around 11 accounting faculties attended the workshop. Ms. Turkiya Al-Busaidi, HoD of Business studies department presented the appreciation certificate and delivered the vote of thanks. The session ended with queried from students and staff.
