ELC Staff Development Webinars 2019-2020

The Staff Development Unit of ELC supported the staff through this COVID crisis by organizing five webinars in the month of June, 2020 under the guidance of the HOC Mr. Sultan Al Dighaishi.
The first webinar was on Developing Critical Thinking Abilities Using Visuals by Mr. Justin James on the 3rd of June, 2020. The workshop demonstrated how visuals like cartoons, caricatures, and pictures can be used to cultivate and promote critical thinking (CT) abilities in college students to make them autonomous and independent thinkers.
On the 10th of June, 2020 Mr. Ishaq Al Naabi presented Online Language Course Design: A Fruitful Journey. The webinar introduced how to design an online course based on systematic evidence-based procedures and how to implement and evaluate it. The participants also got a collection of tools and techniques on hosting and administering online courses in Moodle.
Etiquettes of Videoconferencing by Ms. Nimmy Jos was the third webinar on the 15th of June, 2020. It explained the etiquettes to be followed by the speakers and the participants during meetings.
Another interesting webinar on Making Opportunities and Providing Online Learning through Vlogging was presented by Mr. Orlino Jr. Rabago on the 17th of June, 2020. The presentation clearly explained how online platforms can be used to enhance teaching and learning.
The last webinar was on the 24th of June, 2020 by Mr. Saud Al Busaidi on Investigating Internationalisation at Home: A case study of academic staff perspectives in a local college in Oman. The webinar dealt with the concept of IaH and the role of HEIs to develop international and intercultural skills at home.
Considerable number of NCT college staff attended the webinars and the webinar feedback shows that the overall level of satisfaction was excellent. There were very fruitful question-answer sessions at the end of all the webinars.
