A webinar on the topic ‘Identifying a Research Problem’ was organized by the Research Sub-Committee in coordination with the SDU Sub-Committee ELC, on 25 November 2021. Mr. Sultan Al Dighaishi, HOC, English Language Centre, invited the resource person, Prof. (Dr). K.C Baiju, Ph.D., M. Phil, M A, (University of Kerala), Dean & HOD, School of Economics (SE), Central University of Kerala, India.

This presentation dealt with identification of a research problem from a research idea in an area pertaining to a topic from a knowledge domain. The focus was to explain the sources of identifying a research problem, ways of formulating and how the problem takes its shape, the characteristics of a good researchable problem and shaping the title of a study, operational definition of key terms, research questions, objectives and formulating hypothesis. Use of theoretical framework in a research study and contribution of theories to research also was dealt with in the course of discussion. The queries by the audience were explained in detail by the speaker. As per the request of the audience he also willingly shared the power point he used for the webinar and his email ID. All in all the webinar was well planned and well executed.
The webinar began at 12 O’clock and got over at 1.30 P.M as planned. Almost fifty-five faculty members attended although a few were engaged in classes and re-sit exams. The welcome address was done by Dr. Lekha Nair, research coordinator, ELC and the session was successfully moderated by Mr. Govindraj Ramesh. English Lecturer. ELC. The whole process was done under the effective guidance and support of Mr. Sultan Al Dighaishi, HOC, ELC, Dr. Abdullah Al Abri, the RCC chairman, UTAS-N, Ms. Usha George, the ELC, SDU Representative and Dr. Sangeetha.T.R, the research coordinator, UTAS Nizwa. The audience found the webinar very useful and it helped to enrich the research culture in the university.
