On 5th December 2021, a workshop titled “Mechanical Vehicle Design using Alias Software” was organized and conducted by the Mechanical and Industrial section of Engineering department through MS Teams platform as well as on campus for students and faculties. The resource person for the webinar was Mr. Shahid Ahmed, Manager Design in OLA Electric Mobility PVT Limited. The opening remarks and guest introduction for the workshop was given by Dr. K.J. Sabareesaan, Head of M&I Section. The event was moderated by Ms. Aaisha Al Aisaee, Lecturer, Oil and Gas.

The speaker started the session by explaining the importance of the design and how a general concept of design can be converted into a finished outcome or a product. The speaker insisted the importance of Alias software and almost 95% of the automobile Industry uses this software since the software gives a 3D visualization and can also do technical analysis thereby time and money can be saved. Some of the automobile industry which uses this software are Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ford and General Motors.

The speaker then demonstrated how to work on the Alias modeling interface and the terminologies required for creating curves and surfaces. A live demonstration was given on the curve modeling tools used in the software and a car was modelled based on the blue print by creating different curves and surfaces. The workshop received a very good response among mechanical engineering students and faculties since they were able to acquire information about the Alias software and simultaneously work on the software which was already installed. The vote of thanks was extended by Mr. Mohammed Ismail Iqbal, Lecturer, M&I. The audience found the workshop very useful and it helped to enrich the design exposure in the field of automotive industry.
