Engineering Department student’s visit to Oman Petroleum & Energy Show, Muscat

The Oman Petroleum & Energy Show (OPES) is Oman’s largest international oil, gas, and energy event, scheduled between 21st to 23rd March 2022 at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre, Muscat, Oman.

The event is organized by CONNECT, under the patronage of the Oman Ministry of Energy & Minerals with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) as a Host Organization and was inaugurated by H H Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Chairman of the Board of Governors of Central Bank of Oman.

More than 350 local and global oil and gas companies from over various countries participated in the exhibition attracting trade visitors around the globe. Some of the biggest oil and gas companies such as BP Exploration, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Schlumberger, Oman LNG, Halliburton, Shell, Qatar Petroleum, MOL Group, Baker Hughes, CTS Middle East, and much more, showcased their latest offerings during the three days of the event. The event is backed by a sponsor lineup that includes BP, Shell, Halliburton, Baker Hughes, Oxy Oman, Schlumberger, CCED, Petrofac, Petrogas, Total, Gulf Energy, among others. In addition to the exhibition a Society of petroleum Engineer’s (SPE) conference was also scheduled with a theme “Shaping the future of the energy industry” in which experts were participated from major players in oil and gas industry.


A visit was arranged by the Department of Engineering, Mechanical and Industrial section of University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Nizwa on 23rd of March 2022. A total of 17 students of Diploma in Oil and Gas along with Ms. Marwa Al Nuumani, Faculty of Oil and Gas attended. During the visit, students got awareness on leading global companies, exposure to new inventions in technologies and new project ideas which are used in oil extraction operations, local and global manufactured tools, inspection devices and new case studies in the oil and gas industries. At the end, students were also able to understand the business ideas in the oil and gas field and most important is they have made networking with various company officials.


As one of the students said” it was my pleasure to be one of the participants in visiting the Oil and Gas Exhibition in Muscat. These trips supported by the university show the university’s keenness on the scientific aspect of its students in finding ideas for new projects related to the oil and gas industry”, AL-Salt AL-Maani.

The entire team including students and staff who visited are thankful to the Department Head for granting the approval and ensuring the trip is safe and successful.
