An Educational Industrial Visit has been arranged by the Engineering department (Electrical Section) of UTAS – Nizwa on 13th Nov 2022 to Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) – Open Switchyard, Taymsa, Nizwa. The purpose of this visit is to enhance the practical knowledge of the B.Tech Electrical Engineering students. Dr.Muthukumar Selvakkannu (Lecturer/Electrical Engg.), coordinated the team of 14 students.

The team started its journey at 9.45 AM from UTAS - Nizwa and reached the OETC site by 10 AM. Mr.Mohammed Khalfan Al Mahruqi (Protection & Metering Engineer), ensured all the safety protocol before entering the site.

Mr.Sulaiman Abdullah Al Shuaili (Transmission Regional Manager), leads the team and explained in detail about the entire process happening on the site, like basics of the protection system, Visual inspection of circuit breakers and relays, Microprocessor and computer based protection controls, Analog and digital protections, Relay coordination’s, Back up battery based protections and over view of GIS.

The students had active interaction with the regional manager during the visit and the query session in the end. The visit was successfully completed around 1 PM.
