As part of their learning experience, the accounting students pursuing Advanced Diploma in Business Studies Department carried out two industrial visits recently. This visit was organized as part of Student Centered Learning (SCL) activity and is also mapped in the course delivery plan of Production and Operations Management course at the Advanced Diploma Level in Accounting specialization. The course tutor, Mr. Radhakrishnan Subramaniam, accompanied the 21 students who participated in the tour.
The first visit was conducted last 10th of October 2022 at the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory and CNC Laboratory of the UTAS-Nizwa College of technology Campus. Mr. Anil Kumar M.K., the laboratory technician, led the students through Mechanical Engineering Workshop. The students were oriented on the importance of safety measures followed in the workshop, plant layouts and its logic, and the nature of activities carried out in a training/educational institution. The students were also led through various work stations such as lathes, grinding stations, steel sheet cutting/ shearing machines, welding booths (Gas and ARC) etc. Mr. Kumar also briefly explained the process of the functioning of Computerized Numerically Controlled machines.
The second visit was done last Dec. 7, 2022 at the Al Anwar Ceramics SAOG factory in Thymsa, Nizwa. The visiting students and staff from CEBA were welcomed by Mr. P. Mohideen Pitchai, the company’s IT Manager and Mr. Moosa Ali Abdullah Al Abri – IT executive. The students were also introduced to Mr. Khalfan Mohammed Al Sabahi, the company’s Deputy General Manager – Administration who delivered a short welcome speech to the visitors.
By around 10:00 am Mr. Safwat Mohammed – Assistant Quality Control Manager took over the session and explained the production process, systems, quality standards and safety measures followed in the organization. The students and staff were escorted to all the shop floors of the organization guided by Mr. Safwat Mohammed. At every step of the process, the students were able to see the practical work progressing in the organization. The safety and security of the students were ensured at every stage of the plant visit.
